Some of the parts I was able to salvage. I’m a sucker for big chunks of stainless steel. Also, I am thinking maybe I could turn the sample stage into the world’s smallest-working-envelope 5-axis CNC machine. It couldn’t deal with anything much bigger than an inch on a side, but the resolution would be down around 2 micrometers…
- The sample stage was the piece I most wanted to get. What you don’t see in this picture are the controls that move it in X, Y, and Z, and also rotate it
- Electron focusing coils
- Electron gun
- This valve opened up the rotary vacuum pump to the main vacuum system.
- Part of the control desk. Note the sophisticated tech.
- One of the main logic boards. Somewhere around 300 logic gates, or about one five-millionth of a modern CPU.
Great pictures! What fun! So glad you were able to pick out some of the valuable pieces!
